    Default Tables in Win7-Acad2009

Under WinXP Pro I was able to open an Excel spreadsheet, clear all formatting, copyclip the spreadsheet data, "Paste Special" - Autocad Entitites - and the data would be pasted directly into a table object that was of the tablestyle current at the time.
In Win 7, this does not work, Using exact same procedure, Autocad insists on pasting each cell in the spreadsheet in as a separate text object and not as a table object. Is there a setting I've failed to set?"

Win7 Pro 64 bit, Acad 2009 as part of Inventor Suite 2009, Service Pack 2 applied both Inv and Acad.
    Aero is enabled in Win7.

Please help - this is an important functionality I seem to have lost in Win7!

    Thanks
    Mike

I dont seem to have the same issue in Windows 7. But then again I am in 2010. Are you trying to paste into existing cells, or a brand new table?

a brand new table - in the past if I used the "paste special - autocad entities" option it would take the cells I placed on the windows clipboard which were copied from the excel spreadsheet and create a table of the current tablestyle with the copied cells already in the table. Now I just get text entities.

Is it maybe something to do with the 64 bit? Are you using MSO 2003 or 7?

With the help of Autodesk's tech support, I finally can fully state what is causing the issue:

You have Excel 2007 configured in Compatibilty Mode. This is usually done by setting the default file save type as 2003 (xls) format. When Excel is set this way, in Windows 7 64-bit, the copy operation to the clipboard does not "see" the clip as coming from the Excel application. Rather, it is shown in the Paste dialog as an "unknown application". Only if the Excel spreadsheet is saved as an XLSX(M) can you copy to clipboard and the clipboard "see" Excel as the application.

The jury is still out as to whether this is Autodesk's issue or Microsoft's issue. I haven't yet installed another application that can paste an Excel range to test if it is Microsoft's issue.

So the upshot is that you cannot copy and paste from XLS files in Windows 7 64-bit and get a table object in AutoCAD.

    Great info.
Could this be cross-linked to the \OS\Windows 7 forum?

IMO Both! M$ Shouldn't have changed the Application Name simply because of a setting. And ADesk shouldn't have bound themselves only to use Excel.

The reason you can't find any other program with this problem is that no other program has this stupid tie to Excel spreadsheets only. All others have the capability of pasting tables from any spreadsheet (Lotus, Quatro Pro, OOo Calc, etc.) Even M$ Word can paste a OOo Calc spreadsheet as a table inside a document (linked or not) - not only as an OLE object.

No offense to anyone here, but who really still copyclips from excel?? I've been using the datalinks from within Acad to Excel since it's release, and have NEVER had an issue.

I will concede, however, that my knowledge of this is limited to WinXP (daily usage) and Vista HomePre (rare usage), but I've used it with both Office '04 & '07, and with '07 in compatibility mode.
