Exclamation Inventor 2009 Crashes After Opening Anything

I am using Inventor Profesional on a Windows XP SP3 machine. I have been using it for months now. Yesterday I installed Mysql on the same machine and when I came in this morning Inventor crashes right after it loads any file.

I can open Inventor and it brings up the Open file Diologe just fine but when I select a file to open it loads the file, displays it for 4-5 seconds and then crashes. It even crashes if I click cancel.

The error report told me it was an Unhandled Exception error. I have done some research online but I can't seem to find anything.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I believe your problem lies with the MySQL installation. You could try a repair, but I would suggest a complete un-install of Inventor, and then re-installing.

Did you create a Restore Point before installing new software?

If you end up having to do an un-install be sure to find the Autodesk Inventor Clean Uninstall document.
And download Windows Install Clean Up utility and run it before doing re-install.

When doing re-install stop all anti-virus services.

OK,....so where exactly is this document to be found?!?

I've just spent the better part of an hour searching for it with every combination of searches I could think of both at the Autodesk website and via Google but to no avail!

All I can find are a pile of links to yourself or Dennis Jeffries telling people to find the "Autodesk Inventor Clean Uninstall Document" - just once it would be nice to actually find a LINK to the jolly file!!

Sorry for the rant, but I find it extremely frustrating when such recognised and respected individuals as yourself and Dennis trot out a line like that without bothering to either a) make sure the document you're referring to can still be found and accessed, or b) Just link to it!!

Don't get me wrong JD, I respect your expertise as I've seen both you and Dennis answer some very curly questions in the past, but it's really not sufficient to simply suggest that someone reads a document unless you know that the document in question is available to be read.

    Cheers,...Jon.

P.S. Please don't take offence - I'm having a bad day, but I still stand by my points.

    First one in the list

I suspect that someone who can't find the document shouldn't be fooling around with the Registry. I recommend that you hire an exerienced IT Professional to help you get this problem sorted out.

At least wait until you have a calm period in your day as this can be frustrating.

When I first read this a few hours ago I immediately typed a scathing response, verbally shredding you (is that possible when typing..?) for having the gall to insult me in such a fashion for not being able to find a document that was supposedly easy to find, despite the fact that I clearly stated that I had put a lot of time into searching for it. (I don't know what happened there, but the searches that I was running yesterday were returning only a tiny fraction of the results that they yield today, no matter how I vary them.)

Then I realised that judging from the content of your replies that you were probably having just as bad a day as I was, so I'd like to take the opportunity to apologise for any offence that I have caused and for my initial reaction as I certainly did not intend to make a personal attack in my comments, only to express my frustration. Upon re-reading, I can see that my comments could be taken personally - that was not my intent.

I'd like to think that we can both be adult and professional enough to admit our mistakes, apologise, and move on.

    ?

    Regards,...Jon.

Some further information for the OP - I had a very similar issue with Inv 2010, which is how I came across this thread.

This thread at the Autodesk discussion site may help you.

AutoCad 2010 Freezes on start up, accessing file menu

You'll notice that the problem was also occuring on their ACAD 2009 installs.

I had the problem of both Inventor and AutoCAD locking up, so I did a repair of the .NET 3.5 installation and (so far at least) it seems to have solced the problem in both AutoCAD and Inventor.

Probably best you try this before you uninstall and reinstall Inventor, it only takes a few minutes. Hope I'm not too late with this.

    Cheers,...Jon.
