Default Large format printer 11x17 suggestions?

I am just starting out on my own and the 8x14's are not cutting it. Any suggestions for a 11x17 printer for less then 750 dollars?

    I found some ink-jet HP design Jet 30 for $750 or a HP laser 5100 for $1200.00
I would love to stay Laser but will take an ink-jet if that is all I can afford.

I would even go used if there are any available.

A long time ago I had a similar problem.
The at the time the solution was to have the
client pay for all printing at the local repro house.
I simply billed their plots to their account, as
check prints was all I used for my needs.
The clients were happy to do this because I explained that
it would lower their costs for printing.

I just bought a new Canon I9900 inkjet printer for $400. The output is great! It'll print up to a 13" x 19" sheet. The clarity of regular plan type black & white drawings is great, & if you do any renderings, the photo output is spectacular, using photo paper. It'll also print right to the edge of the sheet.

It takes eight inkjet cartridges, & the price on them averages ~ $7.00 each. I've had the printer for a few weeks, & havn't had to replace any yet.

I bought it online. The best price I found was at www.abesofmaine.com.

(PS: They're located in Brooklyn, NY, not Maine)

I bought an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 which will print on paper up to 13x48 in size. It was about $450, but less w/ a rebate. I would highly recommend this one. The quality is as good as a laser & speed is not so bad. Plus you get photo quality. Epson has always been at the top of my list when it come to inkjets.

My old office had an HP Laserjet 5000 for several years. It was a workhorse - we kept it very busy printing 11x17's and never really had any trouble that a little maintenance didn't fix. I think reconditioned units can be found fairly reasonably on eBay. Look at you printing costs before you go with an inkjet - laser is generally a lot cheaper.
