    Default element id

    hello!
is there a way to ask navisworks to search for a revit 'element id' in the current navisworks session? i have hundreds (if not 10s of hundreds) of a particular equipment type (element) that im running a clash detection, against other types of model geometry, and would like to search for a particular element from the clash result(s).

    thanks,
    -md

This is from the Navisworks help file:

This page enables you to adjust the NWC export options for the Revit file exporter.

    Convert Element Ids
Select this check box to export the ID numbers for each Revit element.

When this check box is clear, the file exporter ignores IDs.

    Convert Element Parameters
Specifies how Revit parameters are read. Select from the following options:

None - the file exporter does not convert parameters.
Elements - the file exporter converts parameters for all found elements.
All - the file exporter converts parameters for all found elements, including the referenced elements. As a result, extra property tabs are available in Autodesk Navisworks.
    Export
Specifies how geometry is exported. Select from the following options:

Entire Project - all geometry in the project is exported.
Current View - everything that is currently visible is exported.
Selection - only the currently selected geometry is exported.
    Try and Find Missing Materials
When this check box is selected (the default option), the file exporter looks for a match for the materials missing from the export.

NoteIf any inappropriate materials are applied to the model geometry as a result, clear this check box to fix the problem.
    World Units
Selects the type of units Autodesk Navisworks uses to open the exported NWC files.

NoteTo adjust the units in Autodesk Navisworks, use the File Units and Transform option.

    thanks for the reply.
i have been able for the revit-export-operation to produce an "element id" that shows-up in the navis file. i would like to query an already known element-id (that i get from revit) in the navisworks session. it would be nice to have a search function within navisworks that could do something like this.

    However!, re. the "convert element id" option;
i seem to be getting 2 different element id readings for the exact same element.
when i id an element inside revit, the id is not the same in navisworks of the same object/element.

does navisworks mean something different when describing an 'element id'?

    thank you!

If you go to the "Find Items" tab you can perform a pretty comprehensive search with your own parameters. The drop down lists should contain an option for what you are looling for. As far as the different id numbers from Revit and Navisworks, I don't have an answer for that. Good luck!

    thank you cmealy!
the 'find items' works pretty well so far. is there a way to isolate the result in a view and/or have it highlighted? (maybe a blinking highlight would be nice).

also, can you explain the conditions of the "search:" pull-down? i dont seem to see an explanation in the help file.

    thank you.

you should be able to save your search as a selection set/selection set. From there you can isolate the items, change colors, etc.

Also, what do you mean by "explain the conditions of the "search:" pull-down"?

yes. i think selection-sets are a viable solution.

    thanks for your help!
    Search
Specifies the type of the search to run. Choose from:

Default. Searches all items selected in the Find Selection Tree, along with the paths below these items, for qualifying objects.

Below Selected Paths. Only searches below the items selected in the Find Selection Tree for qualifying objects.

Selected Paths Only. Only searches within the items selected in the Find Selection Tree for qualifying items.
