Default Need help organizing details, blocks

I just got hired by an architectural firm and have been tasked with organizing commonly used details, blocks, etc. They have several large, quite nice drawings sets from which to harvest these things. I have my own naming conventions that I set up at my previous firm that work quite well, but before I commit them to my standards, I'm wondering if there's some industry that I could tap. Complicating things is that although I have 20 years of CAD experience, I'm fairly new to AutoCAD and therefore unfamiliar with any issues that may exist when setting something like this up. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

CSI, the Construction Specification Institute system for organizing specs would be a good starting point in an architectural organization. I would guess that they have a copy of the MasterSpec [docs] available, and you could use those to start cataloging.

buttonsrtoys not clear what geographic region(s) you are working in?
If your in the UK have a search for BS1192:2007, CPIC and checkout EatyourCAD who have done a great deal of work around standards in the UK construction industry.

Going global take a look at uniclass, NIST (National Institute for Standards and Technology) and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
