Perhaps I'm not using the correct term. I understand the issue to be centered around AutoCAD continuing to access unused memory throughout the day. Meaning it does not release memory once it has been used in any manner. The result is stalled performance, running out of memory warnings and system crashes.
The only solution I've come across thus far is to reboot mid-day; which releases all memory by default.

Yep. Even if your drawing is only using 3/4 of the available RAM you still may run out as CAD uses blocks of memory which may leave gaps that it can't utilise. Also some memory cards may try to grab RAM at startup leaving it unavailable for your applications.
This is where your OS also becomes very inportant, the change in performance and stability between XP 32 bit and Vista 32 bit is very noticable.

Well, throwing resources (e.g. money) at a software design failure _is_ one way to address the problem. It won't actually fix the underlying problem, but you might feel better through action -- and there's darn little a user of proprietary software can do to actually get down and fix the real problems.
But it does remind me of an old IBM commercial set in a medieval castle under siege. Consultant A in the suit recommended filling a trebuchet with cash and hurling the lucre at the attackers.

At least they admit it. From a white paper, I assume that because C3D is built on Autocad this applies to all versions.

AutoCAD Civil 3D needs memory in contiguous blocks of varying sizes. If a block of
memory large enough for a particular requested allocation by Civil 3D is not available,
then out-of-memory scenarios can occur. The longer a session of Civil 3D has been
running, the more fragmented the available memory becomes due to the various
allocations and releases of memory that occur during different Civil 3D sessions.

When my users come to me reporting messages regarding running out of memory, I ask, "How many other programs are running?"
Typically, there are several. Shutting down programs not in use, like office suite, etc, frees up RAM.
Why draw straws? Just draw one straw and array it.
