Default Changing Material Prop. in Max on a Revit model

I'm trying to change the properties of the glazing panels in PART (not ALL) of my curtain wall in Max Design 2010 (Revit imported model). I have selection sets set up and I'm selecting the specific panels to change.... and it changes all of them. I have tried unchecking/checking Propogate Materials to Instances and dragging the material to the selection to prompt the "Assign to Selection" option. Is there anything else I'm missing?

The Revit model was imported as .FBX format.

I'm doing Daylight Analysis so the glazing properties are extremely important.

    Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Provided they are separate objects, you would need to assign a new material to them instead of changing the existing one. If they are all part of the same object, then you would need to edit the mesh and detach the poly representing the panels you to have a different glazing.

    1. Create two types of panels in Revit. Assign different materials to each. Then in 3DS you can select by material and create selection sets within 3DS. (But then you really don't have to as it was already done in Revit by material.)

    2. Isolate the mullions in Revit you want in a 3D view. Apply the setting using the sunglasses. Save the view. Repeat fro each additional group of items you want to work with. Export these different views to different FBX files. Create a series of layers in 3DS. Import each FBX into a different layer.
