Revit 7.0 – How to Create Fast 3D Details!
That’s it! Awesome!
- Start a new session of Revit 7.0, with the default template.
- Draw a wall 10 feet or so long (Use the Basic Wall: Exterior Brick and CMU on MTL Stud, any wall will do but this is for dramatic effect.)
- Load a Window Family: Casement 3x3 with Trim (again, any window would do).
- Place the Window near the middle of the Wall.
- Go to View on the Design bar, Choose Section.
- Change the Section Type in the drop down list in the Options Bar to Detail View: Detail.
- Draw a section through the window sill in plan.
- You’ll have something like Figure 1.
- Create a 3D View by hitting the 3D button in the Toolbar. {3D}
- The new 3D View will appear, and you will see something like Figure 2.
- Go to View Pull down, select Orient, the select To Other View.
- Pick Detail View: Detail 1 from the list.
- You will see something like Figure 3. Not really impressive yet…..that’s just a section! But wait, this is a 3D view…..
- Hold Shift key, click and hold scroll wheel and drag down towards the left. (Dynamic View Spin)
- Figure 4 appears, and you have an instant 3D detail that shows both Jamb and Sill conditions at the same time! (I've adjusted Detail level to fine, set the scale to 1 ½" = 1’-0", and turned off the crop region.)
- Adjust crop region before turning off if necessary!
*This will work in 6.1, but you must be in shaded mode. 7.0 allows Hidden Line Scope Boxes.
