Have posted this wish to alt.cad.revit - but will add it to the official unofficial list.

Temporary dimensions, can I PLEASE have a pick button to switch them off and back on, also snaps.

In 5.1 you can set snap conditions that persist using the snaps dialog. The snap shortcuts create overrides that last only as long as the current command.
The following may be of some use until additonal functionality can be developed.

The keyboard shortcut SO in the out of the box setup will turn all snaps off temporarily. To make it easier to turn them on and off for longer periods, add a new shortcut to get to the dialog:
Open keyboardshortcuts.txt in the program folder
    Add a new line
    "SA" menu:"settings-snaps"
    Save the file.
    Restart Revit
(you can use any key combo you like instead of SA as long as they are not already in use. SA is a easy to type group)
Pressing SA will immediately bring up the snap dialog. There you can check or uncheck the Snaps Off box.

    thanks for the feedback
