    Default ExpressTools

I know you can install express tools. I know that you have to manually go and configure the deployment to get them to load. But, here's my question:

We don't have the discs, we downloaded the program from Subscription. My IT guy didn't check the install for express tools when he made the deployment. He pushed the deployment to my machine for install. No express tools.

How do I install them if the deployment doesn't have them? Can I just update the deployment, then install them. Or do I need to uninstall and reinstall with a new deployment?

IT wants to blow my machine out again and start from scratch. I'm trying to avoid that. It's finally running good!

First, have them open Control Panel and modify your install. Check the option to install ET. Then have them go to the admin image and modify that for future installs.

Can they do that if the image doesn't have them? If I had the disc, I'd put it in and do that. How would I do it from a network deployment?

That's why I suggested that you have them access your control panel and check the option to add ET. It takes admin rights to do that. Its there though.

When you modify the admin image, you have to customize the default install. See the Network Administrator's Guide> Creating a Configured or Customized Deployment. When going through the pages of the Network Deployment Wizard, on the page that says "Select the Installation Type", the default is "Typical". You need to select "Custom" and choose the option for ET. They shouldn't need the dvd for either the deployment or to modify your existing install.

Okay, thanks. I think that answered my question. I wasn't sure if that could be done without first doing it to the image and reinstalling. I'll have him check it out.

IT didnt' think it would work, but it did. I guess the deployment just sets up what gets installed. All the features are actually put on the machine.

    Thanks Ed.
