Default Cannot find the specified drawing file

Another architect sent me a zip file with dwg, TXT, FMP, TPF, SHX, and CTB files in it. I opened up the zip file and double clicked on one of the dwg files to view it in DWG TrueView 2010. An external references dialog box opened listing three files: the DWG that I opened, and two other dwg files that are in the zip file listing both of their status's as not found. I double clicked on one of them and a select file window opened, however after navigating to the location of that file and selecting it I received the DWG TrueView message "cannot find the specified drawing file." My only option is to select okay, which then repeats the process. I have tried selecting all three of the DWG files therein with the same results. And I can't cancel this action. What am I doing wrong?

I no longer own, and have not used, autocad for many years. Please advise.

Don't try to open the DWG files directly within the ZIP file. Extract all the files first.
