    Default Mobile system update/edits

I would like to see a project that allows users to create a file from their designs/drawing/map and take that file with it's embedded data out to a field site on a mobile device. Check the objects and its embedded data, if needs to be edited then a way to make the edit then when they get back into the office have it update the design/dwg it came from. Not the dwf markups that we have now. Some thing so if I take a Map3D dwg with either object data or FDO data out to verify in the filed, I see that a utility pole data has 50' as the height but it's real height is 45' to be able to change the data on the spot, then when I get back in the office click a few buttons and that edits are made with very little users intervention. This should also work with REVIT so that a user can update as builds from the field, if a door element is listed as Steel 1 hr fire rated but in the field it is a wood door with no fire rating the user can make the changes on the mobile device then update the as-builds back in the office with one/two button clicks. Now the platform for it to run on needs to be something that runs on the I-Pad, Windows Mobile, Tablet PC and such, we don't need to carry around a $3000 laptop in the woods or construction site.
Personnally I like the Window Moblie platform so it can be installed on handheld GPS units that many of the Map users already have. : )

You know the architectural crowd is going to want it to run on an iPad...

It would be cool if you didn't have to bring a model - just log in remotely to a server hosting the model and send commands to the server for it to update the model in real time so the people back at the office have real time feedback.

There's a lot of Civl3D user that are a Apple a day peeps too.
The log into a server needs to be an optional method, there's still a lot of places out in the boonies that do not have cell service even though AT&T and Version say they do.

Thank you for this suggestion that describes your workflow in sufficient detail. This is something we can consider going forward. A combination of Project Twitch and web-based file hosting may fit the bill.

That will not work when the user is out in the middle of nowhere and can not get an internet connection. Unless you know of a way to bounce the data off the GPS satellites.

Technologies like Google Gears provide an "offline mode" so users can conmtinue to work when they are disconnected from the internet.

I'll let you know my options when I get a chance to play with it. Been busy filling out job apps and getting hitched.
