Default parametric asignment of materials to imported object in revt ?

I have worked on assigning materials to imoprted CAD-objects in REVIT-families.
So far i succeeded by using the assignement within the "object styles" -> "imported objects" dialog seeing to have the imported CAD in sorted layers.

Is there though any way to have this assignement by a type-parameter, so that i don´t have to make a single familyobject for each appearance ?

Not if its imported CAD geometry.

Yes, not if it is just an imported CAD geometry.

As an alternative, you may try this: In a generic model family, bring your imported CAD object, and using that geometry as a reference, you need to rebuild it as a native 3d object in Revit. It would be more work, yes, but this is the only way to can control its material with a parameter, as you wish.

After you have created your 3D model, you can erase the imported object. Go to Manage > Materials, and create "Material 1", Material 2", "Material 3", etc. Go to the the Family Types icon, and create a new type parameter, such as "Object material", which will be of "Material" type. Then, create new types, such as "Type 1" using "Material 1", "Type 2", using "Material 2", etc. Load into your project. Now, you should be able to have different versions of your object, with different materials.

I had a some weird behavior in this department yesterday. Had a furniture family with imported cad geometry. Opened it, changed the material, saved out as a different family, and re-inserted. In the family editor, the material is different. In the project, it doesn't change! My guess is that even if the cad blocks are in separate families, they are in the same line in the object styles list, so have the same material. I guess the next thing to check is renaming the cad block, importing into a second family, changing the material and reimporting...

...or just building the stupid thing in revit
