Use the block command without selecting anything. Then on the drop down list search for the block name you are unable to explode. If the "allow exploding" option is unselected, select it and click OK.

You will now be able to explode the block.

There is a major DANGER based on H'Angus suggestion. If you do what H'Angus says, you run the risk of losing any Dynamic Properties assigned to that block. In other words, when you check "allow exploding" and redefine the block, all the other insertions of that block will lose it Dynamic Properties.

Here is your best bet to change a block definition to "allow exploding" but still retain any Dynamic Properties:

    1. Using the BEDIT command, select the block name from the list you want to allow exploding (or, click on the block, right-click, and select "block editor")

    2. While in the Block Editor, open the Properties Manager (without selecting any objects)

    3. Under the last category (ie. "Block") click on the "allow exploding" pull-down and select YES

    4. Save and exit the Block Editor.

Once you have exited the block editor, your blocks will still have its Dynamic Properties, but now you can explode any of them

b.t.w. WHY do you want to Explode your blocks?

My though exactly! IMO there should be no reason whatsoever:

If you want something out of the block use the NCopy command.

If you want to redefine the block, rather go through the BEdit command.

If you want to create a new similar block with a new name, the BEdit command has a save-as function.

If you want to change the linetype, colour, layer, etc. of the entities ensure everything inside the block's on layer 0 and ByBlock (or preferably ByLayer). Do this through BEdit.

IF they are dynamic blocks - which wasn't mentioned.
An easy way to identify dynamic from static blocks would be good.

There are a few "easy" ways to figure out if a block is Dynamic.

    In no particular order...

    1. Click directly on the block and its dynamic grip options will appear

    2. If your block definition happens to be on a tool palette, you will see a lightening bolt icon near the block icon which tells you it's dynamic.

    3. Using the BEDIT command and click on the block definition, a preview image will appear, and you will see the lightening bolt

    4. Using Design Center, click on the "Open Drawings" tab, expand the tree of the opening drawing and select "blocks", when you click on a block name you get a preview image complete with the lightening bolt telling you the block is dynamic

    5. using the INSERT command, click on the block definition, a preview image will appear, and you will see the lightening bolt
