    Default Can't load Sketchup Models

I suspect this is problem created by new group policies as I've never had a problem until recently, but just to be sure has anyone else had a problem loading sketchup models in 2010?

    The error I get says

Can't load xyz.skp because of an internal error
Navisworks cannot create the Sketchup COM objects.
    SketchUpReader.dll may need registering.
    Error code: 20480

Incidently most models where an associated nwc file has already been created open fine, I assume because NW defaults to the nwc.

    All hypothesis would be appreciated

are navisworks links like xrefs? are they missing?
may be a problem with the version of sketchup too.
i know 7.0 and previous versions allowed import of dwg.
7.1 takes that away unless you buy the pro version.

In the past I have simply opened sketchup models or merged them into an existing nwf file containing other models. I haven't changed sketchup or NW versions since I last successfully opened or merged a skp file.

We thought it might have been to do with administrative rights and reading the registery file, but I'm getting same problem with full admin rights.

    Solved

    Manually re-registered the sketchupreader.dll

How this happened on two separate PC's at the same time is a mystery.

For a guess at the cause, I'd look for commonalities between the two PCs in terms of installations, uninstallations, updates, or run programs since the issue appeared.

Some (un)installer or registry updater might be either:

    Unregistering the DLL.
Registering a different DLL for the same COM interface that Navisworks then can't load.
Cleaning up the COM interface in the belief it is not needed.

Shared components sometimes exhibit this kind of cross-talk between applications, and their installers.

I'm glad to hear that the manual re-registration solved the issue.

    Hope that helps,

    Jeff
