    Default Remote server

    Hi
I used to work from a server located in our office, which used to be pretty fast.
Our IT has now moved our server over 200 miles away.
Since the server has moved i have been getting issues with AutoCAD freezing when using various commands Copy, Paste, Hatch etc: Opening and saving drawings is now a nightmare. My average file sizes are 5 to 30meg, some at 130meg which take 10mins or more to open. i have asked for the server to be returned but dont think this is going to happen.
We are using Blue Coat Proxyclient and fibre optic connection.
Can anyone explain how i can speed things up or why it is bad practice to have a server off site.
Does CAD constantly talk to the server when working on drawings? it seems like i have a constant lag.
    Any help would be great.
PS am not that clued up on the IT side of things

    Thanks

check on the files tab in Options for the 'Automatic Save file Location" and "Temporaty Drawing file Location" as well as "Temporary External Reference File Location"

these should all be pointing to a local drive\folder.

Other than that, you should verify that nothing is going to/from the server except the active drawing file(s). all your support folders, drivers, etc, should be local and not across a WAN link.

Also make sure you don't have any invalid shortcuts in support folders.
