When I click on the Layer Button I don't get the layer manage box, I don't get anything. if I hit the escape button I get '_layer in the command line. I have no idea whats going on. I'm using Autocad 2008

Sounds like ythe dialog is off the visible area of the screen.
Press alt, up arrow. You should see a little popup in the upper corner.
Press down arrow, enter. You should see a 4-way arrow.
Press the direction arrow (left or right) to move the layer dialog back into view. If the popup is in the upper right, press the left direction arrow.

In '08, CMDDIA has no effect on layer dialog; I think it only affects the QLEADER in-place editor.

Yep, I agree with Scot & RK. This has only one cause from experience: dialog is moved off screen. Usually because of changing between dual & single monitors. But there could be other reasons as well.

I'm working with 2 monitors. So I took the cad view from one monitor and moved it to the other. BOOM!! It poped up. Thanks for all the suggestions
