Default Valve Family - "Use Annotation Scale"

I am trying to learn how to create valve families and cannot get the annotation to work with the "Use Annotation Scale" check box. The out of the box valve families seem to scale great when the box is checked in the element properties. It might just be a simple setting or something. Anyone figured this out?

Have you created a generic annotation family and placed it into the valve family?

You can't use detail lines you have to use a nested object.

I have not created a generic annotation family and did not see one in the out of the box ball valve which is what I am trying to pick apart and emulate. All I see are model lines tied to refrence planes that are scaling with the parameter depending on the size of the valve (2", 4", etc.). Somehow when you bring the out of the box ball valve family into a project and check "use annotation scale" in the properties it scales with the view.

OK I figured this out. Apparently when you put connectors in the family the annotation automatically works with "use annotation scale". My only explination is its some sort of autodesk pixie dust...
