Question File open takes more time!

    Sir,

I’m using AutoCAD 2008; my drawing file takes (5-10MB file) more time (30 minutes) for opening.
I installed AutoCAD 2006 in my desktop, that same file open with in 1 minute
Plz guide me how to solve this proble; any fast opening file LISP program please.

    System: 3.00GHz, 3GB RAM

    Advance thanks

    mra

Not sure if this is the same case, but we keep on getting the same issue. The files are given to us / we use portions thereof from an Interior Designer's 2010 ACad which he saves down to 2007. We then open this in 2008 ... wait several minutes for anything to start happening. Then (once it's finally opened and I've had 2-10 cups of coffee) I immediately save it down to 2000 format. Close & reopen ... works like a charm!

I think it's something to do with annotative objects between 2008 and 2010, but I've yet to figure this out.

Firstly, your file is 18MB in size (not 5-10 as your OP) ... but hey, it opened on my Vanilla 2008 in a matter of 1min. No worries there. However, I've got a lisp running on each DWG opened to remove XRef Annotation Scales. It listed the following:
    Code:
    44848 XREF scales deleted.
And then I did the usual, purge, -purge regapps:
    Code:
    18 registered applications deleted.
    Audit also listed
    Code:
Total errors found 99 fixed 99
The file's now down to 3.8MB and opens in les than 10 sec - attached.

    System:
    • WinXP 32 (SP3)
    • Intel Core2 6600 @ 2.4GHz
    • 2.00GB RAM
    • nVidia Quadro FX550
So it should have run slower than yours (methinks). Maybe there's something wrong with your installation, something like a folder unfound in your support paths (that usually slows things down).

The main problem I can see was those XRef scales. Search this forum as well as the AutoCAD General forum for the words scalelist nighmares. There are a few utilities available to fix these.
