Default View Question, I don't want it to look like this..

We are almost to the DD Deadline of our first Revit Project and when reviewing prints I noticed there are a lot of Symbols that appear to be behind or under the background. Is there any way to send the Background "Back" or a way to tell the symbol that it's more imporant than the background and should not let lines go over it..

Also this is in Revit MEP 2010

It might be the same problem we had. I can't find the thread that talks about a solution but try using raster processing instead of vector, or is it the opposite...one or the other. It's in print settings. Also, if it's the same problem we had it should still print fine even though your PDFs will have the background on top. If you are having issues when you actually print, then I don't know what the cause is.

We had a similar problem a while ago with 2009. If I remember correctly, it had to do with the linked model's discipline being set to ARCHITECTURAL instead of MECHANICAL or ELECTRICAL (in the REVIT LINKS tab of VG).

I'll see if I can find the thread.

The "draw order" tool is only available in drafting and legend views, that is, for 2010. No idea that changed for 2011.

That would explain that then lol! Thanks for letting me know. Ok, so I still have to try and change the discipline on the Linked Model.. going to try that next

Thanks for the link! I was thinking we'd be stuck with what we have and it seems that's the case. Electrically we just print with "shaded as thin lines" and we are okay, but the Mech and Plumbing departments don't want to print that way and they are the ones having the most issues.

After messing around a bit with print settings: raster/vector etc we ended up having two different print setups. A raster set up for plan views or other views that had the linked architectural model showing and a vector setup for everything else . . . big pain.

Then the other day, while working in a project upgraded to 2011, we discovered that the "background on top" issue was fixed! So I tried printing to pdf and to the printer using vector processing and it worked like it was supposed to!! I was so happy I almost plotted an entire set, full size, just to see the fix in it's full glory . . . but I restrained myself.

So we'll still have to use our two settings in 2010 projects, but it seems with 2011 the problem goes away.

    Dave
