Workset Owner

All of our users are labled as 'Administrator' in lieu of their 'user name' when they checkout a workset. I know this is wrong but don'e know how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think its possible to check out a workset as anything but your user name, therefore it sounds like somehow every user name was changed to admin. To change it back go into each users options and set the correct user name and make a new local file for them with that user name.

Each person needs to setup a user name in the Revit options. Do this with the project closed, and after changing this you will need to make a new local file.
Revit Application Menu --> Options Button (bottom right) --> General tab.

Revit will default to the windows login name, but it sounds like everyone in your office logs in as "Admin...". Have them all set unique user names in Revit.

Thats also going to be a disaster if you dont fix it. If multiple people have the same username, worksharing WILL let them write over one anothers stuff.

I suspect this is because someone launched Revit right after install to test things. Revit will take on the user name of the logged on user at first launch, and then continue to use that name no matter who is logged on. As mentioned elsewhere, you can change the name under options, and indeed many office change the name to include phone extension at the end, so when you get a message that so and so has ownership of an item, their phone number is right there to call.

And to avoid the problem, I don't "test" an install as Administartor, in part because of this, and in part because a test with admin rights is useless, I want to know Revit is working with user rights.

And note that after you change the user name in Revit, this name is used no matter who is logged on. Which can make things interesting when Mary logs on to Dave's machine while he is on vacation.

For that reason, machines that are used by multiple users here, are named by their workstation name in Revit as well. "Dalvista06" for instance.

BTW, i believe it only assigns the username of they do something that edits the .ini file, like actually open a file, or perform an action like a save. Our admins launch revit, but it is set to not bring up the recent files screen or anything, and we give them an .ini with no username. But it doesnt assign one, and one gets assigned when the users log in the first time.

They only launch to make sure no errors pop up from the extensions, etc.
