Question Changing the default colour of objects with no material?

    Hi there.

When an object has no material, it is a default grey colour! How do I change the default grey colour?

You need to learn how to assign materials to objects. For most families, this has to be established in the family giving the components a unique material name. Default is the material assigned through your Object Styles and you can change that on a category level.

If you don't care about reporting the material, you can just "paint" on the vinish you want but you have to paint every surface independently.

Question Re: Changing the default colour of objects with no material?

    wmullett thanks for your reponse.

I am familiar with assigning materials to objects! My issue is that as there is no way to purge materials in revit I have gone and deleted all the materials in my materials library so that I can start from scratch. As a result everything is now the default grey... I would like to change that default grey to a bright colour eg. bright yellow for example so that I can 'clearly' see which objects still have un-assigned materials, as I work my way back to building up my materials library.

So if I go look in the materials dialog box, which material do I have to change to change the default grey? Edditing the material named: 'Default' does not change anything...

    To be more clear:

What 'material' is allocated to an object which has no material allocated ie. Material: By Category. And under the Object Styles dialog box has no materials allocated to the category or sub category of the object?

Wink Re: Changing the default colour of objects with no material?

You might also check to see if Phasing and Graphic Overrides for Phasing is affecting
    the Material rendition.

If the roof you want to be red is on a Phase which has a Graphic Override, that may be
causing it to remain grey, even though you changed the Default Material to red.

Make sure you have the Default Material changed to red in the Project as well as the Family, and that the roof material is set to Default, not Default Roof.

    cheers

I have had a look there does not seem to be any issues with Phasing and Graphic Overrides affecting the Material rendition.

Heres an Example File attached. I have deleted all the materials except for one, (there always has to be one matrerial by default)

The wall, table, and window are all now 'grey' in colour as there is no material allocated to these objects. How do I change the 'default' grey of the wall, table and window? What is defining the grey 'material' if there is no material in the materials dialog which is grey?

I think you'll have to change all of the Default materials. You can't just change "Default", you need to change "Default Floor", "Default Wall", "Default Mass", etc..

If what you want to change is just the 'default' material, select it, and change the surface pattern to solid fill, and then select the bright yellow color of your choice. See illustration.
