Default Door Tag color by Fire Rating

I'm trying to make a big colored spot which changes color according to the Fire Rating (actually shared parameter FireRating without the space). This is to make our Fire Plans more readable at a glance. Anyone know how to do this? I can't see how/where to add an if formula to the tag.

(I haven't ruled out using filters and changing the color of the door itself - but that's not what I've been asked to do)

You can do it with a tag but it won't be automatic. There's no way for a tag to read a parameter of an object and then change it's (the tags) appearance, shape, etc.

What I have done in the past was create the dot as part of the object family and use filters to turn it various colors in the project environment (it turned the object the same color I believe but that was of no concern to us at the time). If you change the visibility of the dot (I believe we nested in a piece of Generic Annotation) so that it's only visible at one level of detail you can control which views it shows up in.

I couldn't find a way to do it in a tag, either. But Greg's direction seems promising. However, to avoid filters, I'd create multiple dots with visibility parameters that are tied to the FireRating parameter in the door. The level of detail would work to show or hide it, but might cause some problems. Another way might be to put the dot on a subcategory and control its visibility with your view template.

I don't think you can put detail items, like a filled region, on a subcategory...

You might try nesting a detail component into the family, and control that with a Family Type Parameter, or tie a parameter from the host family to the nested family. Haven't tried it, but it should work.
