Pipe Work Based On Link Cad File

I thought I found something in the past for this, but unable to find again. We don't do design work in Revit MEP at this point, but we will be doing MEP BIM Coordination. Typically we will have the Plumbing cad files and I plan to link these in so that I can follow piping based on design.

If the cad file is at the exact location of the pipe elevation, I can snap to the items. If not, I am unable to select the file to snap to. Has anyone found any other ways to use linked files and draft over the top by snapping to them?

Create a piping level in elevation, and insert the link on that level, set to the piping elevation. You should be ready to rock,
