Default RAC 2011 - pdf file size smaller as presentation

I always assumed that using the 'Presentation' option in the print dialog would produce a better but larger file plotted to pdf...

Just comparing an A1 drawing plotted out of RAC 2011 to pdf - 'High' option gives 2.2 MB whereas 'Presentation' gives 1.3MB file size.

Strange - comparing the pdfs the 'High' output version does seem sharper than the 'Presentation' output - perhaps more anti-aliasing in the Presentation version?

Just tried it here. Using 'High' produces a MUCH sharper output than 'Presentation'. Especially when using shadows on Elevations. Now I can finally use shadows without it looking like garbage. Never thought to try 'High' output

As for the file sizes, I'm not too concerned about it but High output was smaller in size for my test.

Is "High" the default in the when starting a new project?
    I think it is.

Thanks for the heads up. Glad to know that Presentation does not do better PDFs than the default High setting.

i just tried both options and it looks to me like you are correct.

maybe filesize has got more to do with your pdf printer. have you ever seen how massive a pdf produced in photoshop is (compared to acrobat)?

But Photoshop pdfs will likely contain mostly bitmap information and so would likely be larger than Revit output?

I notice that Acrobat 9 pdf output by default is 1200 dpi which I always change to 600 dpi with the Revit raster output set to high, a combination that seems to give good results but reasonable file size for emailing.
