I agree. It should find an xref that is in the same folder. These xrefs are not in the same folder. I'm curious as to why Autocad is not saving the file path and is only saving the file name. This has only popped up in the last few months which makes me think I have inadvertantly changed a setting.

It is also strange that 'classicxref' will attach the path but 'xref' will not.

Well I found part of the problem. When inserting an xref there is a check box on the second screen that defines path, relative path or no path. Since this box retains the last setting used and does not need to be changed every time I was just cruising past it. It was set to no path. Changing to relative removed the issue with having to go to classicxref to save the path.

Now for the other part of the problem. Unless I'm mistaken, selecting No Path should make AutoCad use ProjectName and Project Files Search Path. Is this incorrect?

glad you figured it out, i was puzzling and not seeing an answer.

Re project path and project name.... it's been a while since I used them, but IIRC your assumption is correct, _if_ the xref is not found in the drawing folder. The ProjectName setting shuld give the application one morre place to search for xrefs. damifino if that would work with images, dgn, dwf, or pdf underlays.

I see you found a fix to your problem, and recently I searched and searched for the same solution. I searched for sooo many different lisp's and everything that worked was a pain, and the stand alone xref manager worked but took some time (too much time considering our server location changed so every drawing required revision to the xrefs) What I found to work best is already built into AutoCAD (perhaps an express tool)... Simply type in the command bar "redir" and treat it as a find and replace command. For me I would say old directory = "\\server1" and replace with "\\companyserver".... The command worked for a minute and all xrefs and images appeard. This has saved us hours so far and figured it could help any one else searching for this answer.
