    Question Constraints defined by?...

highlighted Lines and Dimensions can't be satisfied.

I have created a toposurface of a site and am simply trying to add a pad for the building and split the surface for a road. Everytime I "finalize the sketch" I get the error message above. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have attached the file for comment. At this point, I have simply traced the pad and road locations as lines from the original AutoCad background link.

I think that your file is corrupt . I get the same results as you, so I copied and pasted lines, topo and property lines into a new file and it seems to work fine.

Thanks Allen! I tried opening a new drawing and traced the contours over, but with the same results. I'm wondering if the AutoCad drawing from the surveyor caused a problem with the Revit file. Is this possible even after I have removed the AutoCad file from my Revit file? Thanks again.

You have to be careful when tracing an ACAD drawing. Some lines may be placed in 3D orientations and that can really foul up a sketch.

I just had the same error in Revit 2016 build 16.0.1144.0. I was creating a floor and traced a 3D CAD survey file in my sketch. It worked for the road but when I tried to copy and paste a road island into a "grass" floor island sketch, I got this error. Thanks to Dimitri, I realised it is to do with the 3d cad file. I solved this by:
    1. editing the road sketch and copying the island sketch to the clip board
    2. instead of pasting it directly into the "grass" floor sketch, I first used the Detail Line command and then used Paste Aligned. You can paste lines from floor or topo sketches to detail lines and vice versa.
    3. I edited the grass floor sketch and used the pick line tool, hover over the detail line and clicked TAB to select all the detail lines > Finish sketch. This worked without the error.
Don't forget to delete the detail lines...
    Cheers
