Default Shadow Settings and Daylight Savings in Revit 2011:

Has anyone experienced problems when doing solar studies / shadow studies for various times of day in the month of December?

The problem is, we are finding that the shadows seem to get 'inverted' so that the building becomes shaded as if in shadow, but the surrounding ground plaen turns white or better put, not in shadow.

The workaround is, if the daylight savings option is checked, the settings seem to work as normal. Technically we don't have daylight savings in December but the setting affects all of the views, which means we may need to check to the setting for a batch of views, and then uncheck it for another batch of views. If it is checked, we also need to go and set our day times back one hour. This all seems very 'un-revit'... Am I looking at this the wrong way?

Any help very much appriciated in advance...

I've just been doing some sun path /shading studies on a small building and for me it works fine for December with daylight saving time option unchecked.

This is a single workstation install of Revit 2011 SP2 plus latest hotfix on Win 7 64 and Nvidia FX3800 graphics, latest drivers.

    Thanks for the reply William.

Here are a couple of screen shots with the settings shown along with the output (problem).

Yes, I've got the same results for your location and I can do it in my location too.

It is related to the time of day it seems to me.

Just guessing but I suspect that once the sun has gone down there is no shadow - switching on and off daylight saving time moves the time and the sun is still up (or is it the other way round?)

By moving the time of day back and fore I can make the shadow appear or disappear.

Thats what I was thinking too, however if thats the case shouldn't the whole view be in shadow? I think some of the settings do actually work that way if you change the time of day to something different.
