Help with description Key manager

I currently work at a Enviromental Engineering Firm that has started up a Survey/Civil group. I have been put in charge of setting up all the cad standards and unfortunately have to use LDD 08. I had been using Civil 3D at the last firm but even that was almost 2 years ago. I am a bit rusty and trying to get back up to speed but can't for the life of me figure out why when I insert a ascii file with all my survey points into a drawing with the correct .dsc file loaded why it won't recognize ANY of the points and just puts them on the current layer with no blocks or anything. Can someone PLEASE give me a detailed "how to" on the steps to make this work. Maybe all the way back to having template and prototypes loaded and if that .dsc should be loaded in there as well.

Assuming you have already set up the description keys you need to make sure that your current point style is using the proper Dkey file.

To open the style properties dialog, from the Labels menu pick Show Dialog Bar...
Make sure DescKey matching is on and the the correct file is selected.

To set up dkeys, Points menu > Point Management > Description Key Manager.
