    Default Recessed downlight above ceiling

I placed a recessed downlight in the exterior canopy when I do section I noticed the light is on top of the ceiling instead of below (see capture pic) but if i used the same fixture and placed in a 2x4 acoustical ceiling it is located below (see capture 2 pic)....is there something wrong with the canopy ceiling???

it could be, is the canopy flat or a curve mesh? i've had projects where things showed up upside down in corridor ceilings, lights were upside down and smoke detectors were sitting on top of the drywall, even when placed on the correct face in a 3D view. i think it had something to do with the ceiling type, because it never happened on lay-in grid ceilings. but the arch couldn't figure out what was different about the drywall type...

I may be way off here... but we found using compound ceilings instead of basic ceilings for drywall solved our upside down fixture problems.

I agree. Most of the time I have this problem in our MEP models when trying to host to a basic ceiling.

Due to events that happen from hosting to different objects, we implemented hosting our lighting to named reference planes in our project.
