    Default Keyed Notes REVisITed (2011)

I have a couple of concerns and questions regarding keyed noting.

For the first time (in 4 years) I have had my keyed notes deleted.
We use Notepad++ to edit our tab delimited file.
    Problems:
There is no read only alert when multiple users open a TXT file with Notepad or Notepad++. Another user had the file open unbeknownst to me (he was away from his desk) I typed a billion (pinky on mouth) keyed notes and later he came back and saved his open file.
Also Notepad and Notepad++ have a pathetic excuse for a spell check.

I would like to know what programs you all are using to edit your keyed notes or how you do them i.e., Legends, drafting views etc.

One other issue. Lately, Some of my keyed notes are not showing the numbers on some dependant views. BIG problem.

    Has anyone also experienced this?

4 Years! You made it much longer than most. We ran into this one early on and decided that any editing should be done in MS Word and copy/ pasted back into notepad. We have also *tried* to limit the # of people editing the keyed notes to one.

One other issue. Lately, Some of my keyed notes are not showing the numbers on some dependant views. BIG problem.
I've only seen that before the view was placed on a sheet, never after.

after so many headaches, deleted files, empty text files, deleted notes, corrupt keynote files, lack of systematic workflow, etc., I abandoned the use. other departments are still trying to use it. Our department still utilizes the function of keynote, but the actual notes are just text on the sheets. It defeats the intended purpose, but reduces the headache.

When used, we were utilitizing the emc2 (www.emc2architects.com) keynote manager until our programmer developed an in-house version.

as for the dependent view thing, we also ran into this but I do not remember the fix. I think it may have dealt with placing the notes on the overall view, not the dependent view. But I am not completely sure on this one.

You may want to consider TextPad. It is a great text editor with spell check and will inform you when an open file has been modifed by another user.

    Perfect!
    Thanks Robert.

    1 down.

Anyone have anything on the empty keyed notes on the Dependant views?
regardless as to whether you place keyed notes on D-views prior to placing on a sheet or even before you create the D-views, it shouldn't make a difference. Shouldn't it just work?

I'm having to put generic #'s on the sheet views. No matter what I do I cannot get them to show up.

*Assuming you are using keyed notes By Sheet*
If the VIEW hasn't been placed on a sheet yet - Revit doesn't know what the number should be. That view might be placed on a sheet that already has a view (or views) with keyed notes on them. Since all keyed notes are numbered By Sheet - you can't have two #1's. So Revit waits for you to place it on a sheet and then numbers the keyed notes accordingly.

If you are still seeing blank keyed notes after the view is placed on the sheet - double check the keyed note tag's element properties and make sure it is "pathed" to an actual keyed note.

If the text file got renumbered or some such thing - then that "path" can get broken.

UPDATE ON THE KEYED NOTES NOT SHOWING ON DEPENDENT VIEWS:
The Parent View had 2 dependents.
Each dependent is on its own sheet, A and B (keyed notes didn't work on sheet B)
The problem was the Parent View was also on it's own sheet.
I don't see why this would make any difference since the keyed notes are filtering by sheet, but it doesn't work.
We started the project with 1/8" drawings, than moved to 1/4" drawings and the 1/8" plans were never removed.
