Default Can MEP not hide individual elements in linked files???

In Revit Arch, when I have an MEP file linked in, I can tab-select individual elements in that link and type EH to hide those elements in the view.

My electrical engineer is saying he can't do that with my link in his file. Is this a bug or something ADSK left out or something?? He said he tab-selects an element in my file, and the right-click > Hide In View menu was completely grayed out, and the EH shortcut didn't do anything.

I've been able to hide some Arch stuff in the past and sometimes it will be grayed out, not sure why, perhaps someone can shed some light on this.

It depends on how you've setup your views.
If your view is set to be BY LINKED you cannot control the linked elements. You are telling Revit to specifically show the link the way it is shown in "their" model. If you were able to hide elements than it can't be by linked.
If your view is set to be Custom you can.

Another way to do it is go to Visibility/Graphics (VG/VV) and go to Revit Links > (under Display Settings) click "By Host View" and set it to Custom > now lick on the tab in "RVT Link Display Settings that you want to hide (but first uncheck the show model/annotion and view as custom).

This will hide all elements similar to each other in the link file as you would do you in current model. Thats if you want to hide all similar. I think the Tab-select is individual items. I haven't tried that method.
