Default "Break into", but not really

Is it possible to create a family (in this case a pipe accessory) that will snap to the pipe elevation and centerline, but not break into the pipe? I'm trying to create a pipe hanger but it seems I can only make it break into the pipe like a valve or snap to the centerline, but manually adjust the elevation. I don't want the pipe to break into two pieces but also want it to snap to the centerline and elevation of the pipe.

Have you tested the "Attaches To" Part Type under the Categories and Parameters dialogue?

"Attaches To" sticks the element to the sides or top/bottom of the duct. I tried that once when attempting to make angle bracing.

Correct. "Attaches to" doesn't work either for what I'm trying to accomplish. For now, I may just have to set it to "normal" and adjust the correct elevation once the hanger is placed.

I'm having the exact same problem.

I found the following definitions and want to try "orient to centerline" but am unsure how to create a "takeoff fitting". Even still, I'm sure the connector would break the pipe.

Seems there should be a yes/no in the connector for breaking its host.

    Part Behavior

Invalid Behavior Type: No specific behavior. A type needs to be selected

Bend: Elbows, and other fittings that may behave like elbows

Branch: Similar to a junction, where more than 3 segments intersect

Eccentric Inline: Causing an offset to the centerline of the segments

Inline: Maintains position along the curve of the segments

    Intersection: For cross type fittings

    Normal: No specific behavior

Orient to Center Line: Constrain to the centerline of the segment (for takeoff fittings only)

Orient to Face: For takeoff fittings

Orient to Object: Constrain to the face of the segment (for takeoff fittings only)

Break Into: Break the segment, and act as inline
