    Default VG in Family Editor

I'm new to the family editor and I'm having a basic problem getting lines to display.

Model lines (a circle) won't show up in the family editor reference level. I'm drawing them on the top of the unit to represent fans over the condenser coil, and they won't show. Visibility settings are set to display at all detail levels on all views. In clicking 'show crop region', objects are within the crop region in elevation and floor plan views.

I extruded the circle 1", and it showed up in all views. I can float this extrusion over the unit, but when I get to 1' 8" above the unit, it disappears in the floor plan view. In a model I'd check VG settings, crop region and extents. Where do I go to fix this inside the family editor?

I really wanted to keep 2D objects for simplicity, and I only want them to display in the plan view. I think I can get them to display only there, if I can get them in the plan view at all.

If there is a thread that already covered this, please point me in the right direction, I'm just not seeing what causes this or how to correct it.

    TIA

I have noticed that if you elevation is too high (not sure how high too high is--random) you can't see it in plan and there is no view range to solve this.

Do you need them to be model lines?
Try changing the Model lines to Symbolic, that should do the trick.

It will place the symbology on the Reference level and not with a Z.

Thank you. One reason for posting was to find out if it's just me, or if it's the software. Glad I'm not alone.

I'll give it a shot. The family is fairly simple as-is, so I may throw some very short, very fat cylinders on top to get them visible in all views. If I use symbolic lines at the reference plane, won't they disappear when set to display 'hidden line' or 'shaded with edges'?

I'm currently turning things on and off and re-saving the same family to see what happens. I'm sure this won't be my last family.
