Xref Bind

Am using 2004, my dwg has xrefs. So I used the xref manager and selected the xref to bind, the screen popped up with the bind selections and I selected xbind and hit ok. The xref went alway. I went back into the dwg. I decided to check the xref manager and the xrefs were back. I've had this happen to 2 different dwgs out of 3. Has anyone heard of such a thing. I've never had this happen before.
