Default Revit Viewer Export to DWG

    Revit 2012

I read you can export Revit to DWG using the Revit Viewer, but have been unable to export. I didn't make any changes, simply opened the the Revit file and tried to export...although Revit did upgrade the file to 2012 from a previous version.

Has anyone successfully exported to DWG using the Viewer?

The Viewer will not let you export to a format in which the model data can be edited - such as DWG.

"Viewer mode allows all functionality of Revit, except the following: save or save as in all cases; exporting or publishing modified projects; exporting or publishing any projects to a format containing model data that can be modified; or printing projects after changes are made."

Hmmm....Google searches weren't conclusive, some indicated you could and some indicated you can't.

AutoDesk should make this an option, simply making the objects 3D solids without data shouldn't hurt. We do own some Revit licenses, but it is used by another department. Waiting for the other department to convert or explaining/waiting for A/E team to convert takes forever. AutoDesk should grey out the DWG export to not be such a tease.

I did find a way around...basically got pretty close to what I wanted and would have expected export to DWG to do.
