Default Editing the Imperial Library Content

Im adding a lot of shared parameters to the HVAC eq. so I can make schedules. I have to re-save the family in a different spot than the Imperial Library because it says it is "read only". Is this correct? If it is then I guess we will have two sets of content libraries. What a mess!

I have heard that somewhere before. However I can save over them no problem.
If you go to the properties (not in Revit, but right click on family file) is the read-only box checked?

All OOTB content is installed as read-only. You have to manually uncheck that box in Windows.

There is a reason your library is set to read only. Too many times what was a working family is over written by something less desirable or something that produces unpredictable results. We have a Revit library that contains modified or downloaded content on a network server while keeping our local libraries unaduterated OOTB. Your local library is great starting point for modifying already proven content (most of it anyways)

Good point. All of our OOTB content stays "Read-Only." When you want to modify something, do a "Save As."

I've been doing this too except I save the OOTB stuff because I never (ahem) screw things up.
