Default Exporting a list of drawings

Has anyone found a way to grab the names of the drawings in a model and export them to an excel spreadsheet besides selecting them one at a time in a copy/paste dance?

There are some things in NW where one time, you can use the ctrl-select or shift-select and it works fine, then other times you can't use those selection choices. Then, sometimes you can go back and try the same thing again and the shift-select grabs everything you wanted..

    Very frustrating..

You can copy and paste the info out of the Navisworks Scene Statistics. Not sure that is that much easier than what you are already doing though.

    Navisworks 2011:

Home Tab> Project (Hyper Menu Arrow) > Scene Statistics

Actually that is faster than the way I've been doing it. It's definitely a work around for now, hopefully the selection tree will be modified so this can be done without the extra work involved.

When I was doing it from the selection tree, I have to Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v each individual file name because I couldn't select them in a group using shift or ctrl and selecting. It would allow me to select them all but, when I went to Excel, it would only put one name in the box.

    Good find Zook!

There's a third party solution called Surveyor by the firm Arkitectonix that allows you to export any property data contained in a search/selection set to Excel. I create a search set that captures the original source file name and can export out easily. Also, if the file changes, the search set will update accordingly. The downside is that this only works with 32 bit machines. See the attached images for more info or go to http://www.arkitectonix.com/ for info on how to download.

I don't think I should have to purchase a software product that should be part of the actual NavisWorks package. Being able to copy a list of files that are in a model should be fairly easy for the developers to incorporate into the software. Also, being able to click at the top of the selection tree to sort the files alphabetically shouldn't be something I have to pay for either.

When your company owns as many seats of Navisworks as we currently own, to have to manage a 3rd party software on top of the original software becomes a huge pain.

I'm looking for solutions that are hidden in the software as there's no courseware that's current as of 2009 for the newer releases and we've pretty much been left on our own to figure these things out. Solutions like what Zook_one posted are worthy of consideration.

    And Zook_One strikes again.

There IS a way to sort all the drawings in the selection tree. His method is to right click on any of the files, click on Scene (Hunh?? Who'd a thunk that?), then there's a magical word there called sort...

These are the kinds of tricks I'm looking for that are buried in the software.

The technology is there, we just need to dig in and find it. It's not the best solution but, it'll do what I need it to do just fine.

I agree that you shouldn't have to purchase anything extra. I use the free trial version which works fine for what I need. There is also the sort feature as Zook alluded to.

Regarding training materials, you might check these out.

    Hi there,
I'm thinking of creating a schedule out of items in Navisworks. Is there a way I can extract all the items/objects from a model into spreadsheet?

    Thanks in advance
    cheers

I haven't seen anything where you can extract data. The data is all IN the models but, to be able to extract it to a spreadsheet? Hmm, sounds like a wish list item to me..

You might also want to start a new thread when you start a new topic so others will see your post.
