    Question feet-inches-sixteenths input and dimensioning

Does anybody know how to set up AutoCad for feet-inch-sixteenth input and dimensioning which is standard in truss design? Example: 12' 3-1/2" would be represented as 120308 or 12-3-8; 16" would be either 10400 or 1600 ( 1',4", 0 sixteenths or 16", 0 sixteenths). Drawing a line of specific length for instance would be: click for start point, indicate direction with mouse, enter length (distance) as ftinss (feet inches sixteenths e.g. 111012 , 11' 10-3/4). Truss design and AutoCad are joined at the hip. Drawings produced by a truss design system frequently require annotation, modification, or addition of elements. Having a consistent method of input and dimensioning would be a major help. Thanks.

Start with an imperial template - one that does NOT have "ISO" in its name.
Type UNITS; under LENGTH / TYPE select "Architectural" and under PRECISION select "0'-0.1/16"".
Type DDIM; create a new dimstyle. On the PRIMARY UNITS tab selct "Architectural" UNIT FORMAT and "0'-0.1/16"" PRECISION.

I think you would still have to enter 12' 3½" as either 12'3.5" or 147.5" but I'm not certain as I use only millimetres.

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried all the standard methods of setting units and creating a dimstyle but continue to be frustrated in my efforts.

If you're using Architectural units, you can enter a measurement as:
    12'3-1/2 or 12'3-8/16 or 12'3.5 or 147.5

    I don't believe there's any way to use "8" alone to specify 8/16ths (1/2")

There's no way standard in ACAD to achieve that annotation style that I'm aware of.
