    Default Performance

    Hi everybody,

I know this is not the first time there have a discussion on this topic, but I post anyway. I use REVIT MEP 2011 on a Dell Precision T7500 equipped with two processors with 4 cores each (Intel Xeon X5570 CPU @ 2.93 GHz) and 6GB of RAM on Windows 7 (x64). I thought my problem was due to the video card (There is a lag when I move a drawing). A computer tech came to check my computer and noticed that Revit uses only one proc and one core only. Is this normal? Is there a configuration file to tell Revit to use multiple cores? Thank you very much. Have a good day.

Other than rendering, there are maybe only a handful of operations that take advantage of multi-core processing.

If you can, add more RAM to the computer. I'm running 6GB as well and it's sluggish (to say the least) on large models ("large" being anything over 30MB with a linked arch & struct model). We have some computers running with 12GB of RAM on Win 7 and we have noticed a very measurable difference in speed between 6GB and 12GB when dealing with larger Revit models.

I say the biggest performance upgrade we have had in the past year was getting 1.0gbps switches in our offices. Saving central files now is a delight!
Most of our projects are 150mb + and working on them on local files is not bad just saving was a nightmare.
    System
    Precision T3500
    Xeon 2.53
    12gb ram
    Nvidia quadro 2000
    Win7 64bit

Looking at going to Revit server or VM.
