    Default Render shows black screen

    Hello Everybody,

When I render a simple view (exterior sun only) in a very basic model (no light fixtures) the render progress dialog appears for about 4 seconds then disappears. All I am left with is a black screen.

I am using Vista 64 bit and Revit 64 bit
Hardware graphics acceleration is off (I have tried it set on as well)

    Any Ideas?

    Roy

Try deleting the view and recreating it. I have seen this happen only once but this was the only solution I could find at the time.

Cool Re: Render shows black screen

Check the Project Location, Sun settings, etc.

Perhaps you are rendering at night, which is why it is black?
Make sure you have it set to a specific time/date/place, so you can
understand where the sun is supposed to be in the sky in relation to the model.

Make sure all model categories and worksets are turned on in the 3d view.

Also, set up a Scope Box on the model, and try adjusting it in all three axes.

    cheers.........

    Hey there,
Another cause for a black screen is when the actual camera is inside of an object. To check this, open a plan view, then click on the camera view name in the Project Browser and select "show camera". The camera icon will appear on your plan view.
(This method also is good for modifying view angles etc.)
    Best of luck
    Steve

Same problem here. External camera, sun only and a lot of RPC.
I believe it's some problem with Archivision.
When archivision is off, it render without any problem,
if archivision is on it does not render.

I occasionally experience the same problem, particularly when the size of my cropped view gets too large (i.e. over 14" in either width or height). And in my experience, once a camera view renders the "black screen of death", it will continue to render as a black screen regardless of how you subsequently attempt to downsize it, simplify it, reduce DPI settings, etc. In other words, once the view is bad, delete the camera and start over.

My approach is to start small and light and work up... meaning, I place a camera and ensure that the cropped region is sized to 6" or less (in the largest dimension) and render the view using a Quality Level of "Draft" or "Low" at Screen Resolution. If the view renders, I know that my lighting worked, that my camera wasn't in a "box", and I save the file to keep what worked. Then I increase the cropped region size (if needed for a high-quality print) by a couple of inches and render it again. I continue these iterations (in baby steps) until I either reach the desired image size and quality or until I get the black screen of death. I only save the project file after a successful render. If at some point I get the black screen of death, I simply close the project file without saving and I revert to using the project file with the render settings that last worked.

This approach is not ideal. It's time-consuming, no doubt about it. But until I find and resolve the core problem, this is all I know to do.

If anybody has solved this problem, I’d love to know about it!
