    Default Cut With Voids When Loaded / Nested Families

    I made a family in Revit 2012 that includes the "Cut With Voids When Loaded" parameter...

    Everything works as expected when the family is loaded into a project. The issue I'm having is when I Load/Nest the family into another family the "Cut With Voids When Loaded" parameter does not work. I have both the nested family and new family set as "Generic Models" so I'm assuming that is not the issue

    I'm not sure why this function would be disabled in a nested situation but can anyone confirm this is by design? and if so... I would add it to the Wish List

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Upload ur families. is the void face based?

    Void->Family cuts
    Void->Family -> Family does not cut
    is this the problem?

    Thanks for the responce and sorry for the delayed reply... Ive been swamped with deadlines

    Not sure I understand your interpretation of my problem but the problem I am having is that the family with the "Cut With Void" is inserted directly into a project it works fine but if I nest it into another family it cuts in that family but not in a project that that family is loaded into

    to try and use your lanuage it would be this... I think?

    Family with Void-> Loaded in Project -> Family cuts
    Family with Void->loaded/nested in another Family -> New Family with nested component -> Loaded in Project -> Family does not cut

    I did not upload my family because I decided to restructure the family a different way and worked around my problem. However I do like the "Cut With Void" option and can see using it alot but if it cannot be nested then it losses some of its power

    I will try and put together a simple family test to illustrate the problem

    Your void family needs to be face based in order to cut when it gets nested into another family. Use the Generic Face Based.rft to create your void family. Then nest/load it into another family. Place it on a face and it will cut it.
