Default Can't apply wipeouts to labels created with LDD label commands

I've run across what seems to be a really annoying bug with LDD, and hope someone has a workaround.

I've been labeling a plat, using the line labeling commands in LDD. I want to create wipeouts behind these labels. However, this doesn't seem to work.

The problem is any line that was labeled with a label style that splits the label into two pieces. For example, "bearing, distance above". When I attempt to apply a wipeout to this text label, it works fine on the distance part, but completely erases the bearing part.

Selecting text objects created with the label command and exploding them does the same thing - the distance part stays there as expected, but the bearing part gets deleted.

Anyone know any workaround, besides "don't use LDD label commands" or "don't use wipeouts"?

    (Note: running Autocad/LDD 2004)

Time to get real creative with Layering, and XREF and XCLIP.

    Yuck!

But that may suffice. For the most part, the labels that I really want to use wipeouts on are simple distance-only labels; the wipeout works fine on those. I just need to be more selective about which text objects I put wipeouts on; I can't simply select all the text items.

I think there might only be a few of the multi-part labels that I actually want wipeouts on, and I can take care of those individually by hand-creating text objects. And, as you say, I can always do "creative XCLIPs" if I need to... (my drawings/layers are already setup in a way that's conducive to that, if I need to do it...)

a way to use wipeouts with LDD is also to turn off the align to object and place the annotation by grabbing the grip of the label and rotating it by the grip, and then apply wipeout this works with Curve tags as well, but when you have the align on it won't let you use wipeout. Sad fact. In the 2005 version it works like mentioned here, but I guess doesn't work in 2004.

The only workaround I have found for this is to disassociate the labels.

Tried that, but how do you disassociate a label you placed with "Label line by points"? (I also have to deal with the problem that my labels and my linework are in different drawings, so most of the LDD label commands don't work anyway.) When you do "Label line by points" or "Label curve by points", there's no line to select when you run "disassociate labels".

It works if you pick the labels instead of the line - even if you labeled by points, but only on lines. I can't get any method to solve the problem on curved text.

    Great. That works.

I see what you mean by curve text. (The curve text also won't rotate, as I've discovered in the past when I've tried changing the north orientation of a drawing.) The problem can be solved by manually drawing wipeouts behind the curve text, which is a pain, but I think I can manage.

So, it looks like I can put all my labels in, dissassociate them, use "mask text" for the bulk of it, and put wipeouts behind curve text manually. OK, a lot of extra work because of problems with LDD, but that's something I've grown used to. LDD leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to ease-of-use and user-friendliness. Sounds like it's manageable, though.

Glad I could help and thanks for the tip on curved text. I think some of the annotation problems could be solved if the programmers used simple DText and middle justified it. I can adjust those entities with grips and/or mirroring and get the results I want. It drives me crazy when then annotation for a huge curve inserts on top of the only other objects in the area and refuses to be manipulated out of the way. There is some hope of solving this and several more issues in Civil 3d however.

You should be able to grip edit the curve text to slide along the curve to a point that is clear. I know it still lacking in some features, but it is better than calcing them by hand.
