Arrow ACAD Proxy Entity Not appearing in AutoCAD 2006 ????

    I am running:

    Windows XP
    AutoCAD 2006
    Trueview 2011

I have a file sent to me with topo contained in a linked "ACAD Proxy Entity".

It's there but I can't see it, I have changed colors, etc. also it does not show up in Trueview 2011 either.

    Thanks if you can help.

Do you have the proper Obnject Enablers installed?

If so, it's entirely possible that the proxy objects do not have a graphical display element, and can never be visible.

    Problem Solved:

I had un-zipped the file using window xp compression, not noticing that the 15 mb file un-zipped to 2 mg. (for some reason the Proxy file was eliminated. so I used Winzip on the original zip file and it maintained the Proxy file and showed up in the open file.

    Thanks if you were searching.

I wish sometimes ADesk would make the eTransmits a bit more "smart" than simply a ZIP file. I've lost count how many times someone's told me that the xref isn't part of the ZIP I sent them ... only to find they opened the ZIP in WinZip / Win's Folder View / WinRAR / any other compressor viewer ... then double-clicked the DWG to open.

When you do this, only the file you double-clicked is extracted from the ZIP. So there's no way for ACad to find any of the rest. What I usually have to explain is: "Extract everything out of the zip into an empty folder."

Talking Re: ACAD Proxy Entity Not appearing in AutoCAD 2006 ????

    irneb,

That's a good point. But to be clear about my situation, I had unzipped the entire file to a solitary directory, but I used Windows XP Compression software, and the Proxy file did not transfer with the dwg file. The file size was actually smaller than the existing file in the zip. So I had all the linked files, ie: aerials, xref. etc.
So when I unzipped using Winzip (not to promote just that program, I will double check with 7zip which I also use) the file maintained its original size and included the proxy file.

    Ugh,

    Thanks for the input!

OK, so you're saying there's something wrong with Windows' built-in zip decompress! I wouldn't be surprised ...
