    Default Excel into ACA issue

I set up a data link (using a named range) from an excel file to acad arch 2011 then I try to insert a table using that data link and it keeps prompting the following pop-up: Do you want to save the changes you made to '[FILENAME.xlsx]? I have closed excel and then retried this and even though excel is closed I still get that message. I haven't made any changes to the excel file. Why does this keep happening? If I change the link type to "entire sheet" it works fine but the entire sheet option is not what I need. That option would include all the empty cells which ACAD chokes on when setting up data extraction matching. Double edged sword much??!!
