Linetype DASHED2

OK. I've noticed another apparent bug in Civil3D 2012.

I have a template with nothing in it. I've deleted as many styles as it lets me. One layer (0). Text, dimstyle, mleaderstyle, etc. is all Standard. Basically, this drawing is as empty as I can make it.

When I create a new drawing using this template in C3D 2011, no problems.
When I create a new drawing using this template in C3D 2012, ....

Where did this come from? I have a linetype DASHED2 that appears, and I cannot purge it. I cannot seem to locate it anywhere. It doesn't appear in any normal style, and I can't find it in any C3D standard style.

So, where did it come from, and how can I get rid of it?

OK. I've been searching some more, and I have found the following.

In my C3D 2012 version, the "Alignment Style" "Standard" under "Display", "Tangent Extensions" was changed by C3D 2012 to be DASHED2 from what I had in the C3D 2011 version (ByLayer).

I changed this to continuous, but still cannot purge DASHED2. I changed all the linetypes in all the styles to be Continuous, but still no. I even changed the linetypes in the labels style borders, etc.

First, why is C3D 2012 changing styles on its own? I'm afraid of what other style information it may have decided to change on its own.

Second, does C3D have something else in the drawing which will not let me delete that stupid linetype? (By the way, I can rename it.)

I see the exact same bogus behavior in 2012. Kind of disturbing, isn't it?

And did you change the linetype for ALL view directions of the alignment style?

C3D claims something is still using that line type, even after I change the view directions.

Yes, I did change the linetype in both the model and plan views. That is the only place I saw them.

If you compare C3D 2011 to C3D 2012, you will notice that the element assigned the DASHED2 linetype ("Tangent Extensions") is a new component of the style. So, I suspect that C3D 2012 has a programming error where the DASHED2 linework is automatically inserted into the style whenever a drawing is opened. Since they have built it into the programs now, I doubt you can delete it any more than you can delete Continuous or layer 0 because it is part of the programming. Why they add the "Tangent Extensions" component as DASHED2 instead of ByBlock like the rest, I don't know. Again, I think it is an error that they should fix.

Is it possibly attached to one of the 'Markers' for the Extensions?

OK, I just ran this test and based on my results the DASHED2 line type is most likely hard coded into C3D 2012 and one will NEVER be able to purge that linetype from ones files ever.

I opened acad.dwt, and modify the default Standard alignment file to NOT use DASHED2 linetype, and then renamed the style to TEST.
The linetype shows up as an item one can not purge.
I then Rt-Click on Alignment Style and select Create New, the style creation dialog appears and the DASHED2 linetype is assigned within the style.

Do we want this linetype in our files? Probably not. Will Autodesk allow us the ability to remove it from them?
Let's just say I don't do Wish Lists.

That's the conclusion that I came to. That it is programmed in, and can't be removed.

However, it can be renamed. For me, the line type is the same as a linetype I have under a different name, so I renamed it in my template. It will always be there, but at least it is consistent with my other standard linetype names. At least this bug is a tolerable inconvenience.

I was able to fix this strange bug by opening acad.lin and simply renaming it to something else...I renamed it to "Dashed (1/2x)." No more persisting linetype! Hope this helps.
