    Default Looking at HP computers

Can anybody give me any insight on any of these? I personally like the one for $1299. But would like to get some feedback. I mainly run Autocad with a 3rd party duct program and Navisworks.

    I've got a Z400 and I love it.
Works great. Plenty of room for ram and upgrading in the future.
Firepro FireGl 5800 for a card and 18GB of matched Error correcting ram.
I'd up what you have in there for ram. I'd suggest for running mep type verticals to have at least 12gb of ram.
Only other upgrade you may want to think about would be a solid state hard drive. right now with the z400 setup you have, the biggest choke point is your hard drive.
    Just my 2 cents.

since HP is getting out of the PC business (looking to sell off that entire group!) it might be a good time to consider something other than HP.

Personally, I've found the best bang/buck ration with Xi Computers. small OEM, great service, great choice. No financial interest, just a satisfied customer

Yeah I realized that after talking to somebody here at work that HP was getting out of the PC market.

it may turn out well, in the end. IBM's pc business ended up as Lenovo, and they still make great laptops.

'course, HP PC biz may end up being a resurection of PackardBell

I believe their latest statement said they were going to spin off the PC division. However they are still going to remain the largest PC manufacturer so I don't think they are going away anytime soon.

If you do decide to go with HP, I can tell you that we have four or five year old XW9400's with AMD Opteron chips, 8Gb Ram, and various hard drives and video cards. These machines rock! We are upgrading some engineers with laptops (Dell M6600), and the ones that don't go to jobsites much, bet recycled HP's and even though they are five years old, I have few failures with them. They handle almost all software issues (depending on the video card, typically), and are very expandable, like our four hard drive box with twin GTX 8500's.
