Question To Link (to view) or Not To Link

As Revit MEP users, what do you do for your architectural backgrounds? Do you link in the architectural model and use object styles and view templates to manipulate the backgrounds, or do you link your view to a specific view within the architectural model? I am trying to evaluate the pros and cons to each. Here is what I have so far:

Using object styles and view templates:
    Pros:
    Quick setup
    Easy to standardize

    Cons:
Don't see detail lines added to backgrounds (happens all too often)
May need to reproduce plan regions for odd view ranges.
Linked or Inserted Cad files must be added to all views needing to show elements (Furniture, fire ratings, etc)

Linking to View in Arch. Model:
    Pros:
    Backgrounds look as intended
    View ranges are not effected
One view to adjust to make changes to all views looking at it (you can fix problems for all views in one spot)
One View for Cad Files to be added to.

    Cons:
Complicated setup (currently have 28 linked models for one project). Very tedious to make changes to.

Any other Pros or Cons I've not mentioned?

    Thanks,

I like where you're going with this.
I have thought about telling the Architect to create views in his model that we can use as links. The only annotative objects would be detail lines, no text, room names, nada.

We do a combination of both. Below grade plumbing plans we'll use the linked view.

I am leaning more to wards linked (than customized) "backgrounds". What makes the traditional (taught) way so complicated are view ranges. MEP has to create a view range that incorporates the design in it's entirety. In doing this the view range now effects the linked view. This is especially complicated when there are interstitial levels. Also we all know plan regions in MEP are worthless (Among other Architectural features in MEP). I am most defiantly going to use only linked views from here on out, just to take the guess work and hassles of trying to get my backgrounds to look right... in addition to my own work.

we ask the Arch to make views for us to use a lot of times. it is really handy and the archs are usually pretty accommodating. although I could see that it would complicate the setup if you have 28 linked models!!

I always use linked views. I have found using the "sheet" veiws works best for me. The problem I have found with having the architect set up views for us to link is they often don't keep them updated. Last minute changes will make it on the sheet view they print but not the linked view they setup for us.
