    Default BIM Management

My company is gearing up to start using Revit and they have asked me to over see it. My question is, are there any BIM Managers out there that can give me suggestions to help build a BIM Management plan?

    Thanks.

This depends on a few things.

    1. Are you with an engineer or a sub-contractor/construction company?

    2. Which version of Revit are you using?

    3. Briefly, what are your current drafting/designing standards and procedures?

I would suggest a plan to ease in w/ some small "practice" projects and some investment of time for the main users to get acclimated to the program and some time to get some office standards developed. I would not suggest buying a few seats and deploying on a project out of the gate, you'll be hating life and will likely make some costly mistakes trying to get things done at crunch time...

there's a huge up front investment of time and resources in getting efficient enough to justify it, once you've been in a while and have your preferences set up you'll start to notice things working nicely fairly smooth.

Very well said, and very true.

Unfortunately we are going into a project off the bat. Apparently, we didn't learn our lesson a few years back with Building Systems. We are an engineering firm using Revit 2012 MEP. As far as our standards I believe we will be altering them to suit Revit rather than the other way around.

    Of course!
And we should go further than that. Building codes and standards and drafting symbology all around the world should be adapted to suit Revit MEP without a shadow of doubt....
