Default Issue: Failed to Open Document

Last week i got a window pop-up when i tried to open a Revit Structure 2011 project file that had been saved recently that said,"Failed to Open Document". I was unable Audit it when i opened, and just assummed that it somehow got corrupted. I was able to retrieve a backup with minimal loss of work.

Just today now, i tried to open a different file on the 2012 Structure Platform with the same message. i was using the file yesterday, and had no issues saving it. Has anyone come across this before?? I am afraid that this may be a hardware issue seeing as though i have had this issue on two different platforms of Revit with two separate project files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Did the error message give any more detail?
Is it workshared or single file?
    Network or local file?
Do the same issues occur on other machines or just this one?

There was no other information in the error message, just, "Failed to open document",

    The file is not workshared,

The file is on our office's local network,

It has happened one other time that i know of on another computer in our office, and twice on mine.

I am getting the same error with Revit 2011. I am not using worksets. The file is stored on a server. Any ideas yet?

Since i have retrieved the backup file and continued on with that file, i have been without issue thus far...that would mean there was an issue with the project file either during the save process, or something within one of the families is not loading properly perhaps?

I haven't done anything differently since i have restored the backup and saved over the original project file. For now, that is the only piece of advice that i can give, not sure though that this will improve your situation or not.

Another option would be to have someone else open the file on a different computer and do a save for you, then see if you have any issues with the newly saved copy. It may have simply been an issue during a save?

Hopefully you don't lose too much if you have to revert to a back-up copy?
